Yeasted Meringue Coffee Cake: Daring Bakers March 2011 Challenge

 
The March 2011 Daring Baker’s Challenge was hosted by Ria of Ria’s Collection and Jamie of Life’s a Feast. Ria and Jamie challenged The Daring Bakers to bake a yeasted Meringue Coffee Cake.
The Gastronomist Economist and I baked this together last Sunday, and it deserved a large crowd of admirers.
The dough, rolled out and topped with meringue and chocolate chips.

Or not. I could have eaten both cakes on my own.

This was far and away the best recipe to come out of my Daring Bakers experience. I will gladly make it again with lots of tasty filling variations.
